My name is Philippa (although most people call me ‘Phil’) and I will be Concert, Tour and Marketing Manager as well as Equal Opportunities Officer for this upcoming year. I really enjoyed being Librarian last year and so returned to the Exec with a view to get even more involved in what is shaping up to be a fantastic and exciting year for the orchestra.
What do you study?
I study Law (3 year) and I’m currently in my final year.
What did you play/when did you start play?
I play viola in the Symphony Orchestra having started violin halfway through high school and switched to viola at the end of high school. It’s fantastic to finally be part of an orchestra with more than one or two other violists. Prior to joining the UWSO, I’ve performed alongside three fellow viola players at most.
If you could meet a composer/performer who would it be?
Term three… and vacuum cleaners.
How do you like you pastry in the morning?
Baked at 180 degrees Celsius for exactly 4.5 minutes and served with seeded raspberry jam. Apart from that, I’m not too fussy.
What the most embarrassing thing you've done whilst at Uni?
Walk on stage late during a performance half-way through the first piece. I’m pretty sure a few people noticed.
What is one of your fondest memories of playing with UWSO?
Apart from walking on late? It would have to be the amazing experience of playing alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the desk-share concert in May 2015. Simply phenomenal.
